A popular event at any car show is "The Cruise." AutoXpo starts off with this popular event on Friday night. Viewers enjoy it as much as the participants; many residents pull out barbecues, lawn chairs and picnic baskets and make a party of it.

The party can continue at the hop - the Sock Hop, that is, Friday night at River Lodge. Anybody who is now or used to be a teen-ager will enjoy the '50s music, hula hoop contests and other fun '50s activities. Dress in appropriate '50s garb for a chance at prizes in the costume contest, or come as you are - either way, you're guaranteed to have a good time.

Saturday, Main Street and many of the side streets will be blocked to traffic and filled sidewalk to sidewalk with shiny cars, their proud owners, and enthusiastic admirers. An early-morning stop at the Kiwanis pancake breakfast in Rohner Park will give you the energy to visit the many displays around town, which include the antique tractors and hit-and-miss engines at Rohner Park. The "putt-putt-pop" of these engines attracts all ages, and the owners of these antique machines love to show off what they can do.

Then you can move on to get your fill of cars at the Judged Car Show on Main Street, the Show & Shine and Vintage & Exotic show at the Redwood Village Shopping Center on Fortuna Boulevard. Don't forget the antiques show at the Veterans Memorial Building on Main Street, and the swap meet and crafts show at Rohner Park.

If that sounds like a lot of walking, don't worry - you can beat the traffic and save your feet by using the free AutoXpo Rapid Transit to get around town. The buses run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; a route map is here. Look for the yellow school bus!

Join the fun... catch Dodge fever!
Mother warned me...

You can spice up your weekend with a little more action at the antique tractor pull, held both Saturday and Sunday, and the Burn Out Contest on Sunday afternoon, all in the rodeo arena at Rohner Park. And Saturday night, be sure to get in on the fun of the Poker Run. This is a different kind of a "cruise," where participants follow directions to planned stops around the Eel River Valley. At each stop a game is played to earn a playing card, and at the end of the run, the person with the best poker hand wins a prize.

Autorama participants can end their Poker Run drive at Rohner Park to enjoy tri-tip steak and all the trimmings at the popular participant-only barbecue. Poker Run prizes are given out at the end of the barbecue.

The Fortuna Redwood AutoXpo truly has something for everyone. The AutoXpo Committee hopes you take home lots of good memories, and maybe a trophy or two.
